Here are a few causes which SUPsistas have supported over the years
Chris Bertish - SUP Crossing
Supporting Operation Smile and the Lunchbox fund
May 2017
SUPsistas feels privileged to be able to support Chris Berths and his Trust with R 7,000.- to make the world a better place.
Our friend and fellow South African, Chris Berths, has achieved the Impossible last week.
Chris, who is a big wave surfer, stand up paddler, adventurer and motivational speaker successfully completed the firs solo Atlantic Ocean crossing on a stand-up paddle board. The 4,050-milecrossing took 93 days, averaging 44 miles a day — mostly at night to avoid exposure to the sun — and alternated between resting and paddling every two or three hours.
He made an estimated two million paddle strokes during the journey.
All to raise awareness and raise money towards Operation Smile and the Lunchbox fund.
If you would like to contribute to the charities Chris is supporting through his Atlantic campaign, visit http://www.thesupcrossing.com/donate/

SUPsistas Birthday surprise for 6 year old Francois
|
On the 1st of September, also known as Spring Day, the SUPsistas celebrated their 5th Birthday with a beach party and raffle in Small Bay, Bloubergstrand.
The SUPsistas had decided that all the proceeds of the day would go towards a child named Francois van Deventer. Francois was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy when he was one year old. He now needs to go to a special school where he can get the care and therapy that will help him cope. His parents need to raise R50 000 to make this a reality. Karina Figl, founder of SUPsistas, explains “Our mission is to inspire women to have fun on the sea and to raise funds to support children empowerment programs. Hearing Francois story on the radio SUPsistas decided to organize a raffle and we are excited to donate R 5000 towards Francois education.” SUPsistas is SUPer stoked to be helping little Francois and supporting his parents with R 5,000.- paying towards a new, special therapy that will be extra helpful for this special little boy. If you would like to support Francois too, you can contact his mother Kim Vandeventer 0603098622 [email protected] http://www.kfm.co.za/Articles/you-can-help-little-francois Thanks to all the SUPsistas and our Sponsors for making it happen!!! Pajamas for girls at Lawrence House
April 2016
Making the world a little better :)
by Jennifer Koopmans As some of you know every Thursday after SUPsistas I head off to town to cook lunch and dinner for the children at Lawrence House. For me it came out of a need to do something, well anything to do some good in this world with so much bad. Good is Contagious! Lawrence House was the beneficiary of your SUPsistas contribution in April. I asked what might be helpful in a home full of many needs... Pajamas for the Girls!!! Please!!! (it is a co-ed home so you can imagine that would be a very good thing for girls to have). So I took the list of the girls/sizes and the SUPsistas money and headed off for the PJ's, trying to get each a unique one so they would feel special...i think it worked!!!! as you can read some of the hand written cards from the girls attached. So Thank You SUPsistas! Doing good! getting fit and having fun :) What a Win!!! Lots of Love and Aloha, Jen Here is the Link to Lawrence House if you would like to know more :) http://scalabrini.org.za/lawrence-house/ Lawrence House Lawrence House is a child and youth care centre registered with the Department of Social Development. The house is based in Woodstock and can accommodate up to 25 children and youth. SUPsistas teach the Surfer Kids how to SUP
Dec 2012

The Surfer Kids is a Non-Profit Organisation operated by Unravel Surf Travel OUTREACH. We work with kids from a local rural primary-school and high-school. Our Mission is “To explore and teach life skills, using surfing and travelling as a medium, in a marginalised rural community,” says Herman Vivier, founder of The Surfer Kids.
12 Kids in the ages of 9 and 15 made their way from George to Cape Town.
SUPsistas donated 18 wetsuits, money towards a trailer as well as the petrol and food for The Surfer Kids Surf trip, says Lollo Wollheim, a Supsistas member who initiated the contact between the Surfer Kids and SUPsistas earlier this year.
"We had so much fun!" says Tyran Cooper from Coreban who is a certified ISA SUP coach and who helped teach the 12 kids how to SUP in Small Bay.
"The kids did really well, considering the very difficult conditions," says Justin Bing the reigning SA SUP and Longboarding Champ who is one of the coaches that supports the SUPsistas during their weekly Thursday morning sessions.
